"Working on Fire is a national organisation and requires management and operations structures that can function separately and independently."
The Working on Fire (WoF) Group comprises four companies namely FFA Section 21, FFA Aviation, FFA Operations and FFA Fire Management. These, in turn, have 10 departments that are managed independently, and are linked to the optimal national performance of the Group.

FFA Section 21 specializes in advocacy, fire research and grants; FFA Aviation focuses on aerial firefighting, while FFA Operations concentrates on ground firefighting that includes the WoF programme, transport, firefighting training and contracts.

FFA Fire Management provides corporate services: finances, administration, occupational health and safety, human resources, buying/logistics, reporting, legal capacity as well as co-ordination and dispatch functions. Working on Fire is a national organisation and requires management and operations structures that can function separately and independently.

This separation of duties is essential to the functioning of Working on Fire. It is important for managers at all levels of management to have the delegated authority to take decisions. Clear roles and responsibilities, coupled with decision-making powers provide an enabling management environment. All managers in administration and operations have fire-related experience and are trained according to the Incident Command System (ICS).
