Before anything can be done about controlling a fire, its existence must be known. Working on Fire is promoting an integrated fire detection system for South Africa. This will draw on and combine all available means to ensure that every veld and wild fire that occurs is discovered and reported to a co-ordinating centre early enough for it to be controlled or managed by the local firefighting force.
