Operational Health and Safety
WoF ensures the safety of fire fighters by instilling a code of strict discipline and equipping them with the best personal protective equipment possible. Safety is not negotiable and a policy of “zero tolerance” is enforced. Even though the work is dangerous, the safety record has been exceptional.

WoF's Occupational Health and Safety Department advises management on health and safety related issues, including:

  • implementing an OHS Management System
  • risk assessments and hazard identification
  • work place inspections and implementation of control measures
  • regular internal safety audits
  • accident/incident investigations and
  • ensuring compliance with legislation

WoF safety officers conduct regular evaluations of health and safety standards within the working environment and ensure compliance with changing technologies and legislation. Areas of interest include training, standards and norms (SABS/NFPA), reporting and feedback to and from the relevant health and safety committees, safety/ "toolbox" talks, risk assessment and hazard identification.
